Gone are the times when unknown persons brazenly crossing borders were considered a threat to national security. When concerns are raised, self-styled defenders of human rights cry foul. They appeal to tolerance, inclusion, and love as a basis for ignoring the risk of undocumented persons entering our lands. The ideals of liberal globalists are pitched as more intelligent. As national sovereignty erodes, concerns for national identity are vilified with a passion. Meanwhile, boats navigate the choppy channel waters, carrying unexpected migrants to British shores. Non-governmental organizations are eager to welcome the new arrivals and ensure their stay. Could criminals be among them? Are the motives for fleeing to the UK ever malicious? Dare we ask the question?
It is academically and politically expedient to say that there is no connection between immigration and crime. Using Denmark and Sweden as case studies, there certainly seems to be a connection. There crime rates show a disproportionate amount of violent crime is committed by non-Western immigrants. Dozens of cases here offer a mere sample of a crime wave that has hit British shores. Hospitable sentiments are spurned by those who were welcomed here. Listed case by case, the majority of the 75 criminals revealed in a special investigation are from Islamic countries. Some are from Eastern Europe. This sample of criminals includes murderers, rapists, and pedophiles. The findings of this brave journalistic pursuit go against the prevailing narrative. Unlike Denmark, the United Kingdom has not published data relating to migrant-related crime. That is one way of upholding the globalist ideal of low-control borders.
To what extent is a nation willing to exercise so-called hospitality? Ideologues broadcast the moral high ground of supporting the free movement of people. A sexual predator was convicted of sexual assault before being granted asylum in the UK. In spite of this case, a news outlet with an ongoing commitment to free borders could only offer an outline of the asylum process as a response to the scandal. Not to be outdone, a man with an astonishing 68 convictions spanning multiple countries was granted leave to remain earlier this year. More care over who is allowed to stay in this country seems reasonable. However, it seems more reasonable to others to sacrifice the safety of our compatriots on the altar of tolerance and inclusion, paying loving obeisance to the globalist elite. How could we stand the economic loss? How could we bear the social shame? We must embrace the free movement of capital, goods, and labor. Such is the view of money-controlled leaders and those who gladly follow them.
The greatest sermon ever given by man addressed the dichotomy of serving God and serving money (Matthew 6:24). Indeed, these are two polar opposites. Placing economic gain as the highest priority sets a person at odds with God. Unity and the pooling of resources are considered progress by nations today. National borders are nothing more than an obstacle to capital flow in an effort to remove all hindrances to partnership across the globe. With no regard for God, unity will only result in greater rebellion against Him. As in ancient times, when there was global unity against God and He frustrated their progress, so will God exercise judgment today (Genesis 11:1-9). Dangerous persons infiltrating the borders of supposedly sovereign nations is one sign of God’s judgment. This phenomena is often brushed off as a necessary cost to arriving at new heights of global unity apart from God. Judging by who is left out, a person can tell who is being united against.
Before humanity ever walked upon this guilty sod, God determined the times and the boundaries of people as an expression of His sovereignty (Acts 17:26). This can be applied to a variety of domains, including entire countries. God determines, and therefore has a purpose for, borders across the globe. In the word of God, broken borders are a sign of His judgment. Even the ancient city which God chose for His dwelling was no exception. The fall of Jerusalem was marked by the breaking down of walls and the invasion of foreign persons (2 Chronicles 36:19). God withdrew His restraining power and allowed the holy city to be overrun because of the sins of His people. Chaldeans burned the king’s house and thus destroyed the means of ruling the land, breaking down the walls of Jerusalem and removing means of security (Jeremiah 39:8; 52:14). Bad actors bent on undermining the sovereignty of a nation in controlling borders do not have the interest of the nation’s people at heart. That is a general rule worth thinking about.
Borders matter. Wisdom literature states that a broken-down wall by a vineyard indicates the presence of a lazy man (Proverbs 24:31). The neglect communicates a devaluing of what is contained within the wall, albeit on a smaller scale. The principles are not only applicable to private property. When neglect is evident at our shores, I too would question the value placed on what is contained within British borders. When walls are broken down and the sovereignty of a nation is handed to another, it is a day of trouble (Isaiah 22:5).
Bemoan the current government and whatever stance is taken on borders. When persons with bad motives avail themselves of the hospitality of our nation, do not overlook the sovereignty of God. “Go up on her walls and destroy,” the LORD God commanded in opposition to ancient Israel (Jeremiah 39:8). In like manner, there are some who seek the destruction of the UK. This results from the wrath of God already being poured out on this land. God judges equitably . Even those used to overrun the land of Judah and destroy Jerusalem would later be subject to the same judgment by the hands of another (Jeremiah 50:15; 51:18).
The thought of destroyed walls signaling punishment for a place is recurrent in prophecies (Amos 1:7, 10, 14). It is the purpose of God to righteously and proportionately exercise His almighty power; that is why walls deteriorate and borders grow weak (Lamentations 2:8). Yes, sinful men are responsible for their depraved actions. However, God’s rule is not undermined. Do we dare to think of the depraved depths sinful men can sink to? The LORD God did not mince His words when speaking to His people of old. We would do well to heed what He prophesied to them, saying, “[Babylonians] will plunder your riches and pillage your merchandise; they will break down your walls and destroy your pleasant houses; they will lay your stones, your timber, and your soil in the midst of the water.” (Ezekiel 26:12) Already a nation teetering on the moral edge, would we persuade God to punish us further?
When God speaks of a future place where His people dwell in total peace and unity with Him forever, He speaks of a place with walls (Revelation 21:12, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19). A distinction is made between those inside and those outside. It has measured walls with gates on each side. There is the highest degree of border control. It is a place where no unclean thing can enter (Revelation 21:27). Nothing that opposes God, who rules without rival, can intrude on the perfect peace of those who dwell there gladly. Not one sinful thing can enter that city. It has beautiful walls adorned with precious stones and set with an immovable foundation. No cause for shame is found in those walls. Indeed, there are no free borders in heaven. Jesus spoke of a chasm between those in heaven and those in hell which cannot be bridged. We’re given this life to trust in the Lord Jesus and obtain irrefutable eligibility to enter that walled city based on His merits alone. For outside a city wall He was crucified to save sinners and grant them entry to a heavenly city which cannot be revoked.
